Zentyal announces Zentyal Server 4.0, major new Linux Small Business Server release

(Full press release available in English , Spanish)

Zentyal, developer of server technology natively interoperable with Microsoft® server products, today announced a new release of the Zentyal Linux small business server. Zentyal Server 4.0 aims at offering small and medium businesses (SMBs) a Linux based Small Business Server that can be set up in less than 30 minutes and is both easy-to-use and affordable.

The Zentyal 4.0 release focuses on providing an improved and stable server edition with native Microsoft® Exchange protocol implementation and Active Directory interoperability, with the goal of providing a complete and easy-to-use Small Business Server, with native support for mixed IT environments that include Windows®, Linux and Mac OS® clients, as well as mobile devices with ActiveSync®. Thanks to this, Zentyal server 4.0 offers full native Microsoft® Outlook Compatibility without plugins or connectors.

Besides focusing primarily on mail and mail-related directory features, additional improvements have also taken place. The L2TP module has been restructured and improved and free configuration backup in the cloud has been made available directly through the Zentyal Server UI. Moreover, an important effort has been put into establishing the necessary quality assurance processes, to improve the stability of the Zentyal Server releases.

Fantastic work, really looking forward to downloading and testing. I’ve been a massive fan since the Ebox days!

Just some quick ideas to add to this awsome project (you may have already thought of some of these)
    1. A storage manager to configure RAID options, shares, etc (like a NAS) and fully integrated with the directory server
    2. A virtual machine manager, something like KVM integrated with your web-gui.
    3. A system management server, like Mandriva Pulse 2.

    Cheers

This release will only be in 64-bit.

Edit: the Zentyal Server installer is 64-bit. If you have installed the 32-bit Ubuntu server yourself you can follow these instructions to install Zentyal Server 4.0 from the APT repository.

Thank you for the reply, I’ll do that.
There is still a lot of powerful 32-bit hardware out there and no reason, why this hardware should end at a waste dump (in Africa).

It seems there is a mistake on your features page under the part that says:

    Synchronization with mobile devices
Native connectivity with Android™, iOS (ActiveSync® support)
    Software integrated: Z-Push®, SOGo

This software isn’t integrated and requires installation through apt. Also, it barely works.

I know it is free but you shouldn’t release software or features that aren’t ready yet.

Hi Matt. Thanks for your feedback. This software is integrated in the Zentyal Small Business server, because once installed through apt it appears in the dashboard. We would have liked to make the installment easier, but it has to be done through apt because of legal reasons. If you find a bug, we would be very grateful if you can report it in our bug tracker, so that we can fix it. Thanks!
